Active mouse Tet1 catalytic domain.
Tet1 is a member of a conserved mammalian-specific family of TET (ten-eleven translocation) proteins. The activity of Tet1 converts 5-methylcytosine (5mC) to 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) in DNA. TET1 is fused to the MLL (myeloid/lymphoid or mixed-lineage leukemia) protein, a histone methyltransferase, in a subset of acute myeloid leukemia patients.
