Technical Summary

Both DNA methyltransferase 3a (Dnmt3a) and its regulatory factor DNA methyltransferase 3-like protein (Dnmt3L) are required for the de novo DNA methylation of imprinted genes in mammalian germ cells. In the complex, the carboxyl-terminal domain of Dnmt3L interacts with the catalytic domain of Dnmt3a, suggesting that Dnmt3L acts by recruiting Dnmt3a to nucleosomes that lack H3 lysine 4 methlyation. The complex was further characterized in the publication below.
