Antibodies Against Brain Angiogenesis Inhibitor 1 (BAI1)

Applications
  • Immunoblotting
  • Immunocytochemistry
  • Immunohistochemistry
Specificity

Specific for human BAI1; does not detect BAI2 or BAI3.

Subtype

Rabbit polyclonal

Immunogen

KLH tagged synthetic protein corresponding to the N terminus (103-118a.a.) of human BAI1 (CQFDSFLESTRTYLGVE).

Technical Summary

Although BAI1 is specifically expressed in the brain, it is not expressed in glioblastoma cell lines; therefore, BAI1 likely plays a significant role as an inhibitor of angiogenesis and a growth suppressor of glioblastomas. The finding that BAI1 proteins are lost during tumor formation is of special interest as restoration of their function in tumors may be of therapeutic benefit.

Western blot of transiently transfected HEK 293 cells demonstrates that the BAI1 antibody specifically detects BAI1, and does not recognize BAI2/3. From Kaur et al., 2003.
