ADHD Mouse Model for Neurochemical Studies

Application

A transgenic mouse model with a mutation that causes overexpression of VMAT2 thus enhancing monoamine signaling.

Key Benefits
  • Only VMAT2-overexpressing mouse model available.
  • Could be used for studies of monoamine neurochemistry and neurological disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), schizophrenia, and mania.
Technical Summary

VMAT2 transports monoamines from cellular cytosol into synaptic vesicles. The first mouse model with overexpressed VMAT2 gene displaying enhanced monoamine signaling has been developed at Emory. This model may be useful for studies concerning learning and memory as well as neurological disorders such as ADHD, schizophrenia, and mania.
